OUR APPROACH

Hawthorne Road resurfacing was part of a larger 10-month Category 2 safety defects program.

AT A GLANCE

Initial Inspection (Nov 3, 2023)

Site visit with Kier, client, and contractor to assess 389m² for planing and resurfacing. After the site visit, client requested a larger area be covered (revised to 745m²).

Client Requirements

Birmingham City Council’s spend control officers required a depth of 100mm (AC20 DBM and SMA10 PMB 60psv). After local councilor’s intervention, there was a requirement for further expansion, the area increased to 1381m², focusing on the surface course.e course.

Safety Precautions

Traffic management precautions were taken to minimize disruption to the local area. Full road closure and pedestrian barriers installed on June 6, 2024, alongside a GPR survey.

Work Execution

Cold milling, hot-applied bond coat, installation of 60mm AC20 DBM, and 40mm SMA10 PMB completed over two days. Road markings were applied, and the road was reopened to public satisfaction.
